New Committee Boat arrives at WYC

Committee Boat
Our new Committee Boat was delivered to Whitstable Yacht Club yesterday (Thursday), all the way from Colne Catamarans in Essex! The boat will be stored in the yard of Whitstable Marine for the next few months while it's fitted out, but it should be on the water by the start of the Summer. Tea Bar Survey

Dear Member

Please find a link below to a survey set up to find out what the membership would like from the Tea Bar Catering.

If you could please complete it by 20th March 2014 as I would like to assess the results before the AGM so we can have a clear picture of where we are going.

Thank you for your help.

Working Party - 15th March

With just over a week to go to the start of the sailing season why not come down to the club on Saturday 15th March, catch up with old friends, make new ones and help get the club ready for the sailing season. Free food to all who help!

There are lots of things that need doing, both inside and out. Whether your skills are in painting, polishing, cleaning or tidying we can find something for you to do. If none of those, please come anyway and you may discover hidden talents!

If you have a pressure washer or carpet cleaner that you could bring please contact the club office. We are also looking for people with carpentry skills to start repairs on the white shed!

Finally as part of the tidying we will be clearing the changing rooms of all stray clothing. Removed items will be retrievable up until Easter, when they will be disposed of. Therefore if you have anything lying around the changing rooms please remove before the 15th! If you need a locker please contact Sally in the office as there may still be some available.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

WYC and Art in 2013

Prosper

In late 2012 and throughout 2013, Whitstable Yacht Club partnered with local artists to form the White Horses Project, part of the Prosper Arts Council Project. In a year of experimentation with combining art and sailing, WYC saw experiments in aerial photography from helicopters and planes, art installations at the club, the Horsebridge Centre and the RYA Dingy Show, artwork printed on Laser sails, and even a visit from royalty! The project has now ended with the final workshop a few weeks ago, but to look back on the year, there are two videos on the subject. Click here to see a documentary on the project, and click here to see a video artwork based on the year's activities.

Thank you once again to all the club members who took part in the project and helped make it a success!

2014 sailing schedule

The final schedule has now been confirmed, and the programme is with the printers. You'll receive your 2014 programme with the AGM papers in the next month, but in the meantime the 2014 schedule is now on the website here.

WYC Club Manager - Jeff Emerson

Jeff Emerson

After three weeks on the job, our new Office Manager Jeff Emerson is settling in. He's had a handover, met the Flag Officers, staff members and most of the key volunteers, and has attended the committee meetings held since he started. If you haven't already met him, by way of an introduction here's a bit of background from Jeff:

"I started my career as a watersports instructor in the stunning Corsican sunshine where I soon got the bug for sailing, windsurfing and water skiing, gaining qualifications with the RYA and BWSF. After spending a winter ski guiding in the Italian Alps, I gained the position of Assistant Manager for an activity Centre and in time progressed to Manager. I managed 80+ Staff looking after 400+ guests at 2 sites. I liaised with local and national authorities including the police, coastguard, sports governing bodies and councils. We ran courses in sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing, canoeing, archery, climbing, shooting and golf as well as hosting corporate events.

"I have had responsibility of managing a large team and delivering leisure activities and corporate events throughout London and the south of England. I managed a dedicated team of staff, volunteers and outside contractors to achieve, implement and develop our events and activities.

"I am looking forward to bringing my knowledge and experience to manage and develop WYC, bringing a bright and prosperous future."

2014 STORAGE STICKERS

I have placed the 2014 storage stickers on the table in the sea room. If you have paid for equipment storage, please come and collect your sticker(s) and place on your equipment or board rack as soon as convenient. Thank you. Membership/Sailing Secretary.

Committee Boat Progress

ColneCC7

More good news for Whitstable Yacht Club this week: In line with the plans agreed with the General and Sailing Committees, developed in consultation with the members, the subgroup formed to purchase a new Committee Boat has this week signed off plans and placed an order for a new Colne Catamaran CC7. There's still a lot of work to be done, but the new boat is expected to be in use for the 2014 sailing season. Until then, Perry will still be available for any events requiring Committee Boat starts before the new boat is delivered.

Thanks to Ian Wild, Stuart France, Jason Wild, John Cooper, Jull Fagg and Richard Earland for their hard work getting to this significant milestone!
