FANTASTIC WEATHER BRINGS OUT THE SAILORS

The wonderful weather over the weekend saw a record turnout of boats this weekend. On Sunday there were over 50 boats competing in the last race of the Spring Series. It was a fantastic turnout and a wonderful sight. Let's hope for more of the same! Sailing Sec.

WELL DONE TO WYC TOPPER SAILORS

WYC Cadets, Conor Lamb, Issie Bruton and Alex Harwood recently competed at the South East Topper Team Racing Event at Redoubt Yacht Club near Hythe. After 5 hours of intensive short sharp races they finished 6th out of 10. They were one of the youngest teams to enter and even managed to beat some of the zone squad teams! Well done to all three for representing Whitstable Yacht Club. Sailing Sec.

2012 RNLI PURSUIT RACE

The annual RNLI Pursuit Race held on Bank Holiday Monday was won by Richard Ledger sailing a Dart 18, chased closely by John Cooper and Phil Emery in their Merlins. A big thank you to John Boorman for running the race from a RIB as our old Committee Boat, Slotty Dawes, is no longer. Well done to everyone who took part and helped raise ?80.40 for the RNLI. DART 18 GP2 at Whitstable Yacht Club - Event Report

WYC Cadet success and participation in RYA Youth Nationals in Phwelli, Wales

Congratulations to WYC cadet, Alicia Clifford (age 17) for helming her boat to 3rd position in the recent Volvo Youth Spitfire Nationals in Phwelli, Wales. Congratulations also to Siobhan Lamb who, crewing with a new helm, finished in 8th position. For more information read on. More ›

WYC Cadet Success

WYC Cadet, Alicia Clifford who is currently sailing with the RYA National Youth Spitfire Squad finished 3rd (at the helm) in the Pevensey Bay open event at the weekend. She will go on to compete in the Youth Nationals in Pwhelli, Wales in the first week of April. We all wish her the very best of luck. Sailing Sec.

Whitstable Merlins Win at Hoo

Congratulations to Rien Zilvold and Julie Nuttall who won the Hoo Freezer in their Merlin on Sunday. Phil Emery and Will Lowes, also in a Merlin were third, and having won the Practice Race the day before, were the winners for the two days overall. Fantastic result, very well sailed.

WYC SAILING SUCCESS

Club member Tom Pygall, crewing for the Scorpion National Champion, Tom Jeffcoate, won the John Merricks Tiger Trophy at Rutland Sailing Club. Competing in sub zero conditions, 139 boats competed at the two-day regatta last weekend. Another brave member, Mark Barnes finished 8th in his B14. Well done to both of them for braving the conditions and flying the flag for Whitstable Yacht Club. Sailing Sec.

Cadet Social Evenings

Calling all WYC cadets and junior members. Please come along and try out our new social evenings designed for the younger members of the club. The pool table (50p a game) and Wii will be available for all. Any children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by a parent. The social evenings will kick off on Friday 2nd March from 7pm to 9pm and thereafter every first Friday of the month. If any adults are able to help out, please contact the office, all help will be greatly appreciated.

The 2012 (provisional) sailing programme is now available to view on our website. The 2012 programmes will be issued in due course. Sailing Sec.

RACE OFFICER TRAINING SESSION

If anyone is interested in attending a CRO course, please let the office know. One is being planned on a Friday evening and Saturday at Broadstairs Sailing Club in the near future. Sailing Sec.

FEROCIOUS WINDS

Please check that your boats are securely tied down as we are being battered by ferocious winds this week. Sailing Sec.
