Club rules, safety and sailing instructions
The coastal environment and the watersports practiced at Whitstable Yacht Club are by their nature unpredictable and therefore inherently involve an element of risk. By starting or renewing a membership, members (or their parent/guardian) agree and acknowledge that, (where applicable):
(i) I am aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport(s) and accept responsibility for the exposure of myself, my crew and my boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the event;
(ii) I am responsible for my child(ren)’s safety, their conduct is my responsibility and I will exercise appropriate supervision at all times;
(iii) I am responsible for the safety of myself, my crew, my boat and my other property whether afloat or ashore;
(iv) I accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by my own actions or omissions;
(v) My boat and equipment is in good order, equipped to be used in the waters off Whitstable and I am fit to participate;
(vi) The provision of race management teams, patrol boats and other officials and volunteers by Whitstable Yacht Club does not relieve me of my own responsibilities;
(vii) I accept that Whitstable Yacht Club is only able to provide rescue facilities during the hours of club racing and organised sailing events. Outside these hours, I have sole responsibility for myself and my children and understand that the club and its staff cannot be expected to exercise supervision or control. Even during club racing or events, the club cannot accept responsibility for children, or any other persons, not engaged in that race or event;
(viii) The provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions, as can be practically provided in the circumstances;
(ix) It is my responsibility to familiarise myself with any risks specific to this venue;
(x) I have read and accept the club rules, and boat parking and equipment storage terms and conditions; and
(xi) I hold and will continue to hold third party liability insurance of £3million covering all craft listed above or otherwise owned or sailed by me under the auspices of Whitstable Yacht Club.
