Sail storage areas - Please keep tidy

Please can all members with equipment in the storage areas at WYC make an effort to keep it tidily stored away. There are a number of areas, especially in Upper Rigdens Shed where sailing and personal kit is on the floor between racks, making access difficult. Please do not store towels, wetsuits and clothing in the sail storage areas. If found, these will be disposed of due to the risk of Coronavirus transmission.

Hurrah! Drinking in comfort out of the rain now possible at WYC bar from Friday 28th August!

Limited table seating inside upon request at the bar – can be prebooked at hourly intervals by calling the bar 01227 272942 option 2. Outside seating ad hoc when you turn up as usual. Daily opening hours 12-8pm every day will continue for September.
Please follow signs for ordering and collection. Please also help them by returning your glasses to the Sea Room and using rubbish bins provided.
Members will be limited to signing in a maximum of 1 guest per day per member. To enable contact tracing all members using the bar must provide their name to the bar team, and full contact details, including name, address and phone number, must be provided for any guests who are signed in.

Bar Update

In these strange times the bar staff are working hard to keep it running as smoothly as possibly.
August hours – open every day 12-8pm.
September onwards - opening hours and having indoor seating are continuously under review within Covid guidance.
If you wish to hold an event/group meeting please contact the bar at least 7 days beforehand. Call 01227 272942 then select 2 or email office@wyc.org.uk. Let us know the hours, number of persons that you expect, type of event, etc.
Due to the extremely variable numbers using the bar stocks are being kept to a minimum and prices will be reviewed. Staff will let the Manager and Committee know if anything is running short, but please do not complain to the person serving you – it is not their fault. Please also help them by returning your glasses to the Sea Room and using rubbish bins provided.
We look forward to seeing you at the Club.

Updated club sailing schedule to end September

The Sailing Committee have agreed that we will continue to release a month by month sailing schedule, so the schedule to the end of September is now posted, and we'll review and post October's schedule by mid-September (based on the latest government guidelines, etc). Included in the schedule is the club Merlin Rocket weekend on 22nd and 23rd August, being organised by the club's Merlin fleet for the club's Merlin fleet, with 2 races per day. Club racing will run in parallel with the Merlin Racing on Sunday. We're also running the full Club Championships for the August Bank Holiday weekend, with 2 races per day on all 3 days! In September, we'll continue with Supported Sailing on Saturdays and club racing on Sundays as this seems to be working well and minimises contact points and volunteer load. We are currently planning on running a (relatively small) Tornado Open on 19th and 20th September, alongside club racing, assuming that government guidelines do not change again for the worse before then. The sailing schedule can be viewed at www.wyc.org.uk/on-the-water/schedule
For the Sunday racing we will stick to the rostered members for Race Officer and Assistant, however please let us know ASAP if you are down to cover a race, but can no longer attend. We will continue to draw Support Boat Drivers and Crews from a smaller pool, anyone scheduled for those duties can stand down, but given the size and availability of Drivers and Crews, we do need volunteers who'd be willing to help. If you can, please contact Robert Govier rear.comm.sailing@wyc.org.uk. Anyone scheduled for Saturday RO, ARO or Crew duties in September will not be required.

Bar opening hours and changing rooms/showers

Reminder: The club bar is open for members every day from midday to 8pm. Seating/social space will be limited to OUTSIDE ONLY on the decking and forecourt. Members will be limited to signing in a maximum of 1 guest per day per member. To enable contact tracing all members using the bar must provide their name to the bar team, and full contact details, including name, address and phone number, must be provided for any guests who are signed in. Please make sure you return your glasses to the table in the sea room when finished.
As per government guidelines, the changing rooms and showers remain closed. Please note that the storage areas (Rigden and Stroud sheds) should NOT be used to change.

Update for members - 8th August 2020

AGM:
With the onset of the Covid pandemic the club had to cancel the planned AGM. The intention was to hold a Special General Meeting within 6 months of the planned AGM date or as soon as reasonably possible. At the time none of us were aware of how long the restrictions on gatherings would continue so it is still not possible to hold a meeting. However, if you have a query regarding club policy, finances or any other matter that would probably be discussed at the AGM then please raise it via commodore@wyc.org.uk and it will be raised at the GC.
The Forge Licence Application:
The club has submitted its comments regarding the application for the extension to the Forge seating to the Licensing Officer. The club will be attending and speaking at the (virtual) Licensing Panel hearing, members who have submitted representations may also have been contacted regarding observing or speaking at the hearing.
Beach Lease Renewal:
The legal process for renewing the WYC lease on the beach continues. You may recall that WYC has issued the necessary notice advising the WOFC of our intention to request renewal. The WOFC has responded with an offer of a new lease summarised as follows:
10 year duration (the current lease duration is 15 years);
The lease to be excluded from the security of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954; and
A reduction in the area of the beach currently allocated to WYC, the reduction being approximately 25% of the area currently used by the club.
WYC has not accepted that offer. The areas WOFC intends to retain include the operations and boat parking area directly in front of the Rigden Shed, required for an oyster grading facility, and the boat parking areas adjacent to the Forge, for the extended seating area noted above. The club now expects to have to request a court ruling on its rights under the 1954 Act. The GC will provide further details as the process continues.
Fees and subscriptions 2020/2021:
The GC has unanimously agreed that these should remain at the current level.
Oyster Trestle Public Inquiry:
We have been advised that the Public Inquiry will now take place in the latter half of 2021, this is to allow the submission of more information regarding ecological matters to the Inspector.
