Powerboat Training

We run a number of Powerboat Training courses at Whitstable Yacht Club

RYA Powerboat Level 1  (PB1) – Start Powerboating

A one day introduction provides a practical introduction to boat handling skills and the use of safety equipment. Primarily for young people aged 11-14.

Assumed knowledge: None

RYA Powerboat Level 2 (PB2)– Powerboat Handling

A two day course to get to grips with powerboat handling. Provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence (ICC). Gives time for practical instruction and theory with a practical assessment.

Assumed knowledge: None, although Level 1 Start Powerboating precedes. Limited to 3 people per course, over 14s only. A direct assessment (1 day) can also be done for those with prior powerboat experience.

Powerboat level 2 is also a pre-requisite to drive a club power boat at WYC.

RYA Safety boat course

RYA safety boat course introduces techniques for providing safety and rescue cover for training fleets and assisting in race management. The course covers: dinghy rescue, windsurf rescue, kayak/canoe rescue, and towing.
