Atlantic Challenge Row - Dan and Olly finish first in the pairs class in just under 43 days!

CREDIT-BEN-DUFFY
Friends of WYC, Dan Parsons and Olly Clark completed their 3000 mile row across the Atlantic last week, winning the Pairs race in 42 days, 17 hours & 59 minutes! They've achieved so much since launching their boat at Whitstable Yacht Club in May 2015, and beaten significant challenges along the way. You can read about their row at www.atlantic-row.com/, and donate to the charities they have supported here. Well done Olly and Dan from all at Whitstable Yacht Club!

Bar Change Relaunch

WYC Development - Funding Update

At the October Special General Meeting, the club decided to apply for Sport England grants to redevelop parts of the club. Two grants were applied for, with several hundred hours of effort from WYC Committee members and subject matter experts put into the development of the applications.
Unfortunately we've received notice this week that we have been unsuccessful with our application to the larger Sport England 'Improvement Fund'. Our application to the smaller Sport England 'Inspired Facilities' fund is still being assessed by Sport England, and we will get a decision on this fund in April.
Although the smaller grant and WYC funding will not allow us to achieve all our aims, if successful it will allow us to refurbish the changing rooms, add family changing facilities, add disabled access and facilities, replace the fire escape, and refurbish the Sea Room roof area. The General Committee will also be assessing other funding options and sources over the coming months to allow us to make the further improvements, and as a fall back plan if we are unsuccessful with the Inspired Facilities Bid.
There’s a lot of momentum behind the efforts to improve the club’s facilities, and the work that’s been done so far will be very beneficial to achieving the clubs aims however the funding is achieved.

Contactless Payments, Tabs and Loyalty Cards

At the General Committee Meeting on Monday it was decided to phase out the Bar Loyalty Cards. No new cards will be issued, and existing cards will need to be used by 1st March. The General Committee also decided to tighten the rules on bar tabs. Tabs will only be allowed if a credit/debit card is left behind the bar, and all tabs will need to be paid off by the end of the day that they were opened. In the coming weeks, we will be introducing 'contactless payments' for credit and debit cards, which will remove the £10 minimum spend on cards with this feature, meaning that tabs will not be necessary for lower value spends.

Membership renewals - rejoining fee after 31st Jan

As agreed at the 2015 AGM, any previous members renewing after 31st January will incur a £25 re-joining fee. This is also the cut off for re-joining member's AGM papers being sent out by post. Membership Fees were due by 31st October, and delaying membership renewals impacts the club's finances and our ability to plan for the 2016 season. If you have not yet renewed your membership, please return your membership renewal form and payment by the end of January to avoid paying the re-joining fee.

Boxing Day Bank Holiday Sail!

Boxing Day Bank Holiday 2015
Great to see so many boats out today in the unseasonably warm and bright weather, avoiding the post Christmas sales by going for a post Christmas sail! There was a good fleet of Lasers, a Topaz and an F18 catamaran out on the water in sunshine and a gusty breeze. To see more photos of today's sailing taken by Tracy and Tom Bruton, see the
full album on Facebook.

RNLI victory in the Boxing Day Boot football match!

RNLI awarded the WYC Boot
Well done to the RNLI team, who beat WYC 4-2 in the annual Boxing Day football match to win the WYC Boot this year. The match, played at Westmead Rec Ground, was a close and exciting match, and raised money for the RNLI. Better luck next year team WYC!

Atlantic Row - Setting off on Sunday, how to track their progress

Atlantic Row
Friends of WYC, Dan Parsons and Olly Clark, will be setting off on their Atlantic Row this Sunday after a small delay due to the weather. They'll be spending the next few months in a small (but technically advanced carbon fiber!) rowing boat, rowing hard towards Antigua, in an amazing mental and physical challenge! You can track their progress online and keep up to date on their progress at atlantic-row.com, and donate to their chosen charities at virginmoneygiving.com. Raise a glass to them when you're sitting down to your Christmas dinner, and they're rowing into the middle of the Atlantic Ocean!
