Sail For Gold on July 29th
Posted: Thursday, 19 July, 2012
A morning of Olympic style sailing at Whitstable Yacht Club, and the first day of Olympic sailing on the new club TV!
The club has designated July 29th to celebrate the inevitable success of the British Sailing Team in advance with a morning of racing Olympic style…
So what does that mean? We plan a series of quick-fire short races ran from a committee boat if appropriate that gets you sailing at Olympic pace! It’ll be a handicap event designed to test your starting skills, boat-handling, stamina and tenacity – so that’s just like the skills you’d expect of an Olympian!
However, there is one big difference…
Those who watch elite sailing will probably agree that it seems a rather grim sport compared to club sailing. Grim? Well, they seem to take it rather seriously and don’t smile much…
The WYC Sail for Gold day will be different! Whilst the basis of the day will be racing (and some useful training before Whitstable Week) and medals will be awarded for winning – but enjoyment and endeavour will also be added to the handicaps to make a truly fun event.
First start will be at 11.00, July 29th which just happens to be the first day of Olympic sailing – which will be on the new club TV…
