Club Series Racing – Signing on and off

There have been occasions when sailors, having signed on for a race, decided that they did not wish to race and signed off in the DNS or DNF box on the signing on sheet. As a result they have been awarded more favourable points than they should. Sailors who, having signed on, subsequently decide not to race should cross out their names on the signing on sheet. This will enable them to be recorded correctly as DNC (Did not come to the starting area).

WANDERER NATIONALS

The best weather of the season to date delighted our Wanderer visitors during the Wanderer National Championships last weekend. Light winds led to close-fought racing and some surprises!. The first Whitstable boat was Paul Yeadon/ Liz North in fourth place followed by Gavin Barr/Mark Skipper. A special Sail For Gold medal race on the Saturday provided some extra competition with prizes fittingly presented by Dave Williams. Dave was an Olympic Sailor at Barcelona and Atlanta. A big thank you to John and Cath Pollitt for providing Nereus as our committee boat, to John Boorman our race officer and to the support of the Merlin and Asymmetric Fleets.

FANCY GETTING A CLOSE-UP VIEW OF RACING DURING WHITSTABLE WEEK?

There are opportunities join our race team during Whitstable Week as safety boat crew. No experience is necessary, you just have to be over 16, and happy to blast around the bay in a rib. You can do just one or two days in the week, or join a rib crew for the whole week. This is an ideal opportunity for non-sailors, friends and family to get involved in a fun week. Contact the club office if you want to give it a go.

Merlin Rocket Open 23/24 June - Beach Clearance

Would the owners of Lasers and the first (eastern) row of Tasars please move their boats to make space for visiting Merlins next weekend. It would be appreciated if this could be done before next Friday evening when we have a small working party organised to move the boats that remain. Having this space available really is appreciated by our visitors. Thank you very much indeed. John Cooper (MR class captain)
